As I mentioned in the previous post, please stay away from upgrading to iPhone OS 3.1.3. Hours after the release of iPhone OS 3.1.3, however, the iPhone Dev team has released redsn0w 0.9.4 that supports jailbreaking on the latest version of iPhone OS. But there is a catch. The jailbreaking solution only works on iPhone 2G, 3G and iPod touch 1G.
Anyway, this is really a good news for those using jailbroken iPhone. But, please read this post very carefully before you take action to upgrade to iPhone OS 3.1.3 for your jailbroken iPhone.
For those using jailbroken iPhone 2G, it is safe to upgrade to iPhone OS 3.1.3 and use redsn0w 0.9.4 to jailbreak it. As there is no further update of the baseband, bootneuter should still be able to unlock your iPhone, in case you need. Here is the suggestion from iPhone Dev team on how you can use redsn0w to jailbreak OS 3.1.3:
We can confirm that yesterday’s redsn0w works for today’s 3.1.3 update for iPhone 2G. Just point it at the 3.1.2 iPhone 2G IPSW after doing update or restore to 3.1.3. So far we’ve only confirmed this for iPhone 2G.For those using jailbroken iPhone 3G, iPhone Dev team also confirmed redsn0w 0.9.4 supports jailbreaking on iPhone OS 3.1.3. Please take extra care for iPhone 3G. Redsn0w 0.9.4 can only support jailbreaking. If you’re relying on ultrasn0w for unlocking, DO NOT UPGRADE to iPhone OS 3.1.3. Your iPhone cannot be unlocked after the upgrade.
Can confirm that this method works for iPhone 3G and iPod touch 1G too. Don’t do it for iPhone 3G if you need an unlock though (really, don’t!).For those using jailbroken iPhone 3GS, DO NOT UPGRADE to iPhone OS 3.1.3. At the mean time, none of the jailbreak tools (including blackra1n, redsn0w, PwnageTool) supports jailbreaking on this OS version. Just keep your iPhone OS 3.1.2 and remember to ignore any upgrade prompt in iTunes. This is crucial, otherwise, you may end up with a “brick” iPhone.
If you’re confused, feel free to leave us comment. Or you can just skip this iPhone OS version and wait for the next major release.
For those who are adventurous for the upgrade, you can download Redsn0w 0.9.4 here (Windows / Mac). To ease your upgrade, a more detailed jailbreak instructions for iPhone 2G will be posted in upcoming post. Stay tuned.
Update: The jailbreak guide for redsn0w is now available. Check out here.
